Michael Chu has been singing for many years in the chorus of the Leipzig Opera.
At the same time, he has been active as a composer and lyricist. Now he has published a CD of his song cycle ” Never Give Up on Love.” Interpreters are three members of the Leipzig Opera: Wallis Giunta (mezzo-soprano), Jeffery Krueger (tenor), and Alden Gatt on piano. The CD is taken from a recording of the world premiere performance in May 2017 at the Leipzig Opera, which supported the project. Since then, the cycle has been performed multiple times.
Chu’s style incorporates elements of Musicals, Pop and Jazz. His songs tell a story of Love, Hope, Happiness and Disappointment, Doubts and Broken Hearts. These are melodies that make you dream — that make you empathize in delight or in sorrow: all professionally done in top quality. One could immediately imagine them onstage in a musical.
Chu demonstrates impressively the musical versatility (possible) of singers in an opera chorus. The contribution of the performers makes the CD absolutely worthy of recommendation. The CD can be ordered in the shop at Michael Chu’s website:
